Machado to rep Dominican Republic at WBC

BALTIMORE — Manny Machado will play for the Dominican Republic in next year’s World Baseball Classic, the All-Star third baseman confirmed on Wednesday.
The decision, first reported by ESPNDeportes.com, was a no-brainer for Machado, who has always wanted to represent where his family came from on the baseball field.
“I’ve always wanted to play over there. I’ve never gotten the chance, in Winter League, to go over there. So I think this is a little better, honestly,” Machado said. “It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to represent my country.
