DeMar DeRozan rebounds with huge Game 5 performance

TORONTO — DeMar DeRozan, his teammates and his coaches have all said the same thing during these playoffs: Despite the All-Star swingman’s early struggles, he was eventually going to return to being his dominant self.

It was only a matter of time.

That time finally came on Tuesday night in Game 5. With the Toronto Raptors looking to snap a 2-2 series deadlock, DeRozan scored a playoff career high 34 points in the team’s 102-99 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Air Canada Centre.

The seven-year veteran shot 10-for-22 from the field, drained his first two 3-pointers of the postseason and went 12-for-13 from the free-throw stripe.

“DeMar is one of those guys where once his shot starts falling, he’s unstoppable,” Bismack Biyombo said Wednesday at practice. “We all know that. And he showed that from the beginning of the game. He was really aggressive, and I always tell him there’s games when you come in really aggressive and I just look at Cory (Joseph) and I say it’s going to be a long night for (the opposition).”

It was the type of performance that reminded everyone why the 26-year-old DeRozan was selected as an Eastern Conference All-Star for the second time in his career during the regular season.
