Robert Lewandowski didn’t close the gap on Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of this season’s UEFA Champions League scoring charts, after failing to find the net in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 semi-final first-leg defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday.
The Polish striker couldn’t take advantage of Ronaldo missing Los Blancos’ semi-final first leg 0-0 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
He wasn’t helped by Munich manager Pep Guariola leaving striker partner Thomas Muller on the bench, per the club:

Lewandowki’s rare off night is one reason why five-time winners Bayern are drifting at 11-4 to finish this season with a sixth European Cup.
Real Madrid are still favourites at 21-10 to win an 11th, despite their first-leg stalemate in Manchester.
The prolific Portuguese forward will hope to make it back for next week’s second leg and extend his eight-goal lead over Lewandowski.

Lewandowski Struggles, While Muller Watches On
It was strange to see Bayern take on the best-drilled defence on the continent without Muller supporting Lewandowski. It’s a lethal double act that so often decides games in Munich’s favour, and Lewandowski looked lost at times without his prolific partner.
