The New York Yankees will visit the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night (8 ET on ESPN), with CC Sabathia and Martin Perez slated to face off.
We take a look at the top stats to know heading into the game.
The pitching matchup
Sabathia has won 24 games since the start of the 2013 season after averaging 18.5 wins per season from 2009-12. Only two pitchers allowed more home runs per nine innings than Sabathia last season (Ian Kennedy and Rubby De La Rosa). He has allowed one homer in three starts this season.
Despite recent struggles, Sabathia leads active pitchers with 2,584 strikeouts, 3,004 innings pitched and 38 complete games. He has 215 career wins, second among active pitchers to Bartolo Colon (219).
Perez is looking for his first win despite three quality starts in his four outings this season. The left-hander is 3-8 with a 4.47 ERA since returning last July from Tommy John surgery.
He has a 56.2 percent ground-ball percentage this season, which ranks 10th in the American League. He had a 59.8 ground-ball percentage last season, which was second in the AL among pitchers who made at least 14 starts.
