Where SEC West QB battles stand post-spring

All 14 SEC teams have wrapped up spring football, and many had quarterback competitions going on throughout spring drills. Today, we recap where the SEC West teams — except Ole Miss, which entered spring with the league’s top QB in Chad Kelly — sit in their respective quarterback battles coming out of spring (on Tuesday we recapped the SEC East QB battles):
Alabama: Honestly, does it really even matter? Nick Saban doesn’t need a star at quarterback, and Lane Kiffin can work magic with any type of guy under center. Still, Cooper Bateman is the leader leaving spring. The staff trusts him and he has the most experience. However, he doesn’t have the arm of David Cornwell and he isn’t as athletic as Blake Barnett or Jalen Hurts. Keep an eye on Barnett. He was the early favorite and could make headway through the summer and fall.
Arkansas: In a shocker that surprised no one, Austin Allen, the younger brother of former starter Brandon Allen, won the starting job before Arkansas’ spring game. The only quarterback on the roster with any sort of collegiate experience, Austin entered the spring leading at the position and only continued to separate himself from the pack.
