Old Trafford could be the venue where the 2015/16 Premier League title is decided as leaders Leicester City travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

Tottenham’s draw against West Brom on Monday Night Football means Claudio Ranieri’s side need just three more points to win the trophy, and could achieve that with victory on Super Sunday.

If Leicester fail to win, it could be decided at Stamford Bridge on Monday night when Tottenham visit Chelsea.

It would be the fifth time that the league’s deciding fixture takes place at the home of Manchester United. Despite having already won the Premier League four times in six seasons, it took until the 1998/99 campaign for United to seal the title on home soil for the first time, as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side beat Tottenham 2-1 to win the league on the final day of the campaign.

The title would be decided at Old Trafford again three years later in 2001/02, but it was Arsenal who triumphed 1-0 to win the Premier League with a game to spare.

A match between United and Arsenal in 2008/09 at Old Trafford would decide the title again as a goalless draw for Ferguson’s side sealed their third consecutive triumph, and a 3-0 win over Aston Villa in 2012/13 also saw United winning the title on home turf.

The destination of the Premier League trophy was decided at Highbury in 1997/98, 2000/01 and 2002/03, while Arsenal’s new home, the Emirates Stadium, hosted the crucial game in 2006/07.

Chelsea have also clinched the title three times on home turf, winning at Stamford Bridge in 2005/06, 2009/10 and 2014/15, while Manchester City have won both their Premier League crowns at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season – in 2011/12 and 2013/14.

Blackburn are the only Premier League winners to have sealed the title despite being beaten, winning the title on the final day of the 1994/95 season with a 2-1 loss at Liverpool’s Anfield as Manchester United failed to capitalise by drawing 1-1 at West Ham.
