There are no shortage of pitching-related storylines to choose from today.

If you like potential history in the making, the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta will go for a second consecutive no-hitter and the third of his career.

For a duel between two accomplished performers, how about the A’s Sonny Gray against the Tigers’ Justin Verlander? If a top prospect’s debut is more your thing, Jose Berrios is making his first start for the Twins. Then there are the veterans trying to stay on a roll (the Giants’ Jeff Samardzija and the Nationals’ Gio Gonzalez) and those trying to break early-season slumps (the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright and the Mets’ Matt Harvey).

Each hurler will be viewable live on MLB.TV.

Fortunately for Samardzija and the Giants, 2016 is off to a much different start. After the right-hander posted three straight solid road outings to begin the year (3.72 ERA), he held the Marlins to one run on six hits over 7 2/3 innings at AT&T Park last Friday, walking none and striking out five. For good measure, Samardzija added two hits and three RBIs at the plate, earning a nice ovation from the crowd upon exiting the game.

“It’s a very educated fan base with high standards. You want to live up to those standards,” Samardzija said afterward. “You come play in a park like this with the history they have here, as a new guy, you want to prove your worth and prove you belong on this team. Hopefully they saw some things that they like.”

Stat that matters: Righty Andrew Cashner, who gets the start for the Padres, has allowed a 1.154 OPS on non-fastballs this season, the highest among qualifying pitchers through Monday.

Nats Gio: PHI@WAS, 7:05 p.m. Gonzalez has put together three straight quality starts to begin this season …
