Vikes GM: Not honed in on WR, could trade back

The Minnesota Vikings, by virtue of finishing the 2015 season with an 11-5 record that was good enough to win the NFC North and then losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Seattle Seahawks, own the No. 23 overall pick in this week’s NFL Draft. Many draftniks expect the Vikes to target a wide receiver in the first round — in fact, all five mock drafts on CBSSports.com (as well as 15 of 16 in last week’s consensus mock) have Minnesota going that route.
But general manager Rick Spielman spoke with assembled Minnesota media on Tuesday about the team’s plans heading into the draft, and he cautioned against that view of things.
“As I sit there, I enjoy reading the mock drafts and everybody out there trying to determine what we’re going to do, we are in a position to take the best player,” Spielman said, per the Star Tribune. “I’m sure I’ll get a receiver question here, but we are not honed in on a receiver in the first round. We’ll look at the best potential player, regardless of position.”
