JaMarcus Russell Says He’d Play in NFL for Free in Sports Illustrated Exclusive

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell hasn’t played an NFL down since 2009, but the former Oakland Raiders draft bust is willing to make a huge sacrifice in order to return to the league.
As seen in this video, courtesy of SI.com, the 30-year-old former No. 1 overall pick wants to play in the NFL so badly that he would jump at the chance, even without compensation:
According to Mark Inabinett of AL.com, the one-time LSU standout said in the video he would accept any type of position with an NFL team as well: “God makes things happen for a reason. Who’s to say? You might see me back. You never know, man. You never know. … Whatever it is—I can be a water boy and work my way into a scout team. It doesn’t matter. I’ll go play for free.”
In addition to that, Russell revealed in the video he wrote to NFL teams last year with an eye toward earning a workout, including Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, to which he said the following, per Inabinett:
