Carlos Costa: ‘It’s difficult to sign a kid but now with Rafa the stress is consistent’

Carlos Costa, Rafael Nadal’s long-time manager, talked to El Espanol about sports management that starts, as with some players like Rafa, since a very young age.
According to Costa, ‘In order to figure out good players you have to be informed about everything that happens. You do that by going to see all the children so that you can see the level they have. Personally, I value knowing about the player more. Even if he is small, you can see his mentality and his goals. Even his family and professional attorney. It is needed to see how they think.’ Than many other agents Costa was a former Top 10 player: ‘I was tennis player and maybe I have a different perspective than other agents. I think my professional experience makes my opinion respected. Being tennis player helps you to approach the families and the professional attorney. It can allow you to have the same thought.”An agent, who has been on the Tour since 20 years never was a tennis player.
