Golden Shoe 2015-16: Top Goalscorers in Europe, Latest Standings on April 25
- Updated: April 25, 2016
Luis Suarez roared into the lead atop the standings of the European Golden Shoe after bagging eight goals in his last two matches, and the Barcelona man is now six points ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jonas.
The Benfica striker netted against Vitoria de Setubal to move level with Ronaldo, but Jonas failed to capitalise on the absence of the Portuguese striker for Real Madrid over the weekend as he went goalless against Rio Ave.
Suarez’s team-mates Lionel Messi and Neymar have also been adding to their tallies with a goal in each of Barca’s matches since our last update, as did Sergio Aguero for Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane—who will play again on Monday night—bagged a brace in his last outing to return to the top 10.
Here are the latest standings:
Rules: Every league in Europe is rated on its difficulty by UEFA and given a constant between one and two.
With a rating of two, goals scored in La Liga are doubled to achieve a player’s points tally, whereas in Ligue 1, they are only multiplied by 1.5.
Suarez Reignites Barcelona’s Title Challenge
After a series of poor results allowed Barca’s La Liga rivals to close the gap, the Catalan giants needed an emphatic response and got one in style as they thrashed Deportivo La Coruna 8-0 and Sporting Gijon 6-0.
Suarez was key to both results as he grabbed stunning four-goal hauls in each, while Messi and Neymar also got on the scoresheet once apiece in both games.
