Monaco missed the chance to return to second place in Ligue 1 after conceding a late goal to draw 1-1 at Rennes.
Helder Costa put the principality club ahead early on and it looked like that would be enough to see them back above Lyon and behind champions Paris Saint-Germain.
But Giovanni Sio equalised with 10 minutes remaining, meaning Monaco only returned home with a point and they fall behind Lyon on goal difference in the race to finish as runners-up.
St Etienne left it late as Nolan Roux’s brace helped keep alive Les Verts’ hopes of European qualification with a 2-0 win against Lorient.
Roux’s first – his fourth goal in five games – was picked out by Romain Hamouma in the 76th minute, before adding a second in added time after Raphael Gueirrero missed his defensive header to let Roux in.
Marseille have now gone 15 home games without a Ligue 1 win after drawing 1-1 with Nantes.
