Rounding the Bases: Getting to know Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy

WASHINGTON — It’s been a whirlwind six months for Daniel Murphy. Last postseason, the former Met hit home runs in six consecutive games (an MLB record) and was named MVP of the NLCS. A month after the World Series, his wife gave birth to their second child, a baby girl named Quinn (to go along with son, Noah). Three weeks later, on Christmas Eve, he signed a three-year, $37.5 million contract with the Nationals. Exactly four months later, the 31-year-old second baseman leads the majors in hitting with a .411 average and is a key reason that Washington boasts the best record in the bigs. But there’s more to Murphy than just baseball. Like being a fan of faith, filth and football. And his wife.
Fave flick: Shawshank Redemption. It runs as a TBS special, so I’ve seen it too many times to count. Maybe 30 times. My favorite line? “Get busy livin’, or get busy dyin’.”
