LOS ANGELES — The San Jose Sharks look to knock off the rival Los Angeles Kings in Game 5 on Friday night, 10:30 ET, at Staples Center. But the Kings vow to be a tough out. Here’s what to watch for:
Inspired by the Blackhawks? The Kings and Chicago Blackhawks have won five of the past six Stanley Cups between them. It makes you wonder, then, if seeing the Hawks stave off elimination to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night had an effect on the Kings.
“If we find inspiration in that, then something is wrong and it’s not going to work for too long,” Kings center Anze Kopitar said after Friday morning’s skate. “We have to find something within this room. That’s just what it is.
“It’s not a secret that we haven’t played our best hockey. When you’re facing elimination, you’ve got to do that. You have to play desperate and play with a lot of emotion [and] at the same time not cross the line; you want to play 5-on-5.”
The Kings of elimination: The Kings were a perfect 7-0 in games when they faced elimination in 2014. You don’t want to live in the past, but it’s something the two-time champs can draw from heading into an elimination game.
“It’s a new series, a new game, but having the experience of being down in a series before, that definitely can help,” blueliner Drew Doughty said Friday morning.
