Leading teams dominate South Sumatra Governor Cup

Palembang, Indonesia, April 21, 2016 – Top teams, including world U23 champions Mariafe Artacho Del Solar/ Nicole Laird from Australia, continued their dominant performances with convincing victories on the second day of the AVC Beach Volleyball Tour 5th South Sumatra Governor Cup 2016 in Palembang on Thursday.
Artacho Del Solar/ Laird, fresh from making a sweep of the Pak Bara Open and Samila Open in Thailand earlier this month, proved that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the four-day competition, which will be concluded on Saturday. The silver medallists at last month’s Asian Beach Volleyball Championships in Sydney snatched two victories on Thursday.
The Australian duo first outclassed Thailand 2’s Rumpaipruet Numwong/ Khanittha Hongpak in straight sets (21-14, 21-18) before mercilessly crushing Indonesians Normalita Normalita/ Martha Rahawarin in a one-sided battle 21-11, 21-7. With a clean sweep of three matches in Pool C, the Aussies now go up against Ng Tin Lai/ Wong Yuen Mei from Hong Kong in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Making it three in a row in Pool D were Thailand 1’s Varapatsorn Radarong/ Tanarattha Udomchavee, who on Thursday pulled off a scintillating 21-9, 21-7 win over Hong Kong’s Ng Tin …
