Browns VP: Trade wasn’t indictment of top QBs

The Cleveland Browns shook up the draft on Wednesday, trading down from the No. 2 overall pick to No. 8 while picking up four additional selections — No. 77 and 100 this year, a first-round pick in 2017, and a second-round pick in 2018 — for their troubles. Because they are so badly in need of a quarterback and traded out of a position to potentially draft their franchise passer, there were some that read the trade as signaling that the Browns were not enamored with the QBs at the top of this year’s class.
That was not the case, according to executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown, who noted that the driving force behind the trade was that gaggle of extra picks the Browns picked up this year and over the next two.
