Aaron Hicks’ throw awesome but not as impressive as Bo or Cespedes

When the Minnesota Twins drafted Aaron Hicks in the first round in 2008 out of Wilson High School in Long Beach, some teams liked him better as a pitcher considering he’d been clocked as high as 97 mph.
Well, now he’s been clocked even higher. His throw Wednesday night to nail Danny Valencia at home plate came in at 105.5 mph according to Statcast data. A new record! We’re going to see all kinds of new records this year because Statcast data is new. Exit velocity! Route efficiency! Outfield throwing velocity! I just hope somebody is keeping track of bat flip distance and slowest speed from home to first.

Look, Statcast data is awesome. Baseball is a sport of numbers and now we have more numbers.
