Denmark’s Mie Nielsen Sets The Sub-Minute 100 Back Pace For 2017 At Flanders Cup

Mie Nielsen became the first woman in the world to post a sub-minute 100m backstroke this year when she dominated a two-lap final at the Flanders Cup today.
In 59.81, the Danish ace was more than two seconds ahead of Duane Da Rocha, of Spain, and Daryna Zevina, of Ukraine and Energy.
Among others setting the early pace in 2017 was Ruta Meilutyte, of Lithuania and Plymouth Leander: in 30.87 in the 50m breaststroke a day after her win over 100m, Meilutyte kept Belgium’s Fanny Lecluyse and a 31.59 at bay.
Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu, of Hungary, clocked a training-set 1:03.95 for fourth in the 100m backstroke amidst a set of multiple swims that marked her slowest moments at the Flanders Cup in five years.
