Iceland – D1 Round 15: Armann still not able to record any victory

Derek Shouse Bottom-ranked Armann is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 13th consecutive match to eighth ranked IA (4-9) 90-62 on Thursday evening. The game was mostly controlled by IA. Armann managed to win fourth quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Armann 55-41 including a 45-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. IA looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard Derek Shouse (188-93, college: Mo.-St.Louis) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Forward Sigurdur Sigurdsson (198-88) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. IA’s coach Jon Thordarson felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Magnus Hjalmarsson (184) answered with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Armann. IA maintains eighth place with 4-9 record. Armann at the other side still closes the standings with 13 games lost. IA are looking forward to face higher ranked Valur (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Armann will play on the road against the league’s leader Hottur (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either. The game in Hamar was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Valur (9-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Hamar (5-8). Valur defeated Hamar 108-92. It was a great evening for American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Austin Bracey helped adding 26 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Valur have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Hamar at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Vestri. Valur will play against IA (#8) in Akranes in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hamar will play on the road against Breidablik in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game in Selfoss was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Breidablik (9-4) played at the court of 6th ranked FSU (5-9). Breidablik defeated FSU 79-64 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for Tyrone Garland who led the winners and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Terrance Motley came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for FSU in the defeat. FSU’s coach Eloy Doce rotated eleven players saving starting five for next games. Breidablik maintains fourth place with 9-4 record. Loser FSU dropped to the seventh position with nine games …
