Red Sox snap out of funk, score seven to support Rick Porcello

BOSTON — Not a bad way to break out of a funk. One night after getting one-hit in an extra-innings loss, the Boston Red Sox exploded for 12 hits in a 7-3 victory Wednesday over the Tampa Bay Rays to make a rubber match of Thursday’s homestand-ending series finale.
David Ortiz and Mookie Betts were the catalysts at the plate, combining for five RBIs, including a Betts moon shot that ricocheted halfway up the light tower in left field over the Green Monster. The win came with a cost, however, as shortstop Xander Bogaerts left the game with what was deemed tightness in his left quad after coming home on an Ortiz double to right in the fifth. Bogaerts plated the game’s first run in the bottom of the first, ripping a 95 mph Chris Archer four-seam fastball into left field to score Dustin Pedroia from second. The Red Sox said Bogaerts is day to day.
