As we approach the January transfer window, which players have just six months remaining on their contract?
Speculation is rife over Santi Cazorla’s future at Arsenal, with just half a year left to run on his latest deal, which he signed in 2015, while the ongoing Saido Berahino saga will no doubt rear its head in January.
Manchester City, meanwhile, have six first-team players in the last six months of their deal, all over the age of 31 and all having played a part at some point this season.
Struggling Crystal Palace and Hull City, who each have nine players approaching the end of their contracts, have work to do over the next few months both on and off the pitch to prevent a major overhaul in the summer, while Stoke also have nine players with six months left to run.
There are no such worries for Leicester and Swansea, who have only 36-year-old Marcin Wasilewski and 38-year-old Gerhard Tremmel respectively nearing the end of their deals, while Tottenham have none, having tied up most of their stars to long-term deals in the summer.
For Manchester United, Michael Carrick has six months left, and having thrived so far under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, has put forward a good case for an extension. Mourinho admitted earlier this season that Antonio Valencia, who has also impressed, would have his one-year extension clause activated this summer.
John Terry’s future at Chelsea may have seemed over last January, but Antonio Conte gave the skipper another year at Stamford Bridge, and the 36-year-old may be seen as a priceless part of the dressing room again next term, despite not featuring heavily since early September.
