Martinez: Defeat was horrible

Roberto Martinez admitted he was embarrassed by Everton’s “horrible showing” as they went down 4-0 at Liverpool.
The scoreline barely reflected the pattern of the game as Liverpool had 41 shots to their rivals’ three and scored twice either side of Ramiro Funes Mori’s red card for a foul on Divock Origi.
Origi and Mamadou Sakho netted headers in the two minutes before half-time, and there were further goals for Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.
Martinez is yet to win a derby, and the manner of the defeat will do nothing to appease his critics among the Everton support ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
The Spaniard made no attempt to sugar-coat the evening’s events afterwards, telling Sky Sports: “It was a horrible, horrible showing.
“It started with the best intentions but then very close to half-time (there was) an inability to do the basics right and do the things you have to do in any performance.”
