Barkett takes over as Bucs’ Triple-A manager

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates announced their 2017 Minor League coaching assignments on Friday, officially naming a number of new managers up and down their organization.
Andy Barkett will take over as the manager for Triple-A Indianapolis. Barkett, who spent this past year as Pittsburgh’s Minor League assistant hitting coordinator, will replace longtime Indianapolis manager Dean Treanor, who became the Marlins’ bullpen coach earlier this month.
Hitting coach Butch Wynegar and pitching coach Stan Kyles will return in the same roles for Indianapolis.
Michael Ryan, who managed the Pirates’ Florida State League affiliate to a championship this past season, will move up a level to manage Double-A Altoona. Ryan will succeed Joey Cora, who managed Double-A Altoona in 2016 before replacing Rick Sofield as the Pirates’ Major League third-base coach.
