Adam Peaty Heads For Euro Meet Test With Marco Koch, 200m Among Ambitions
- Updated: December 22, 2016
The breaststroke races at the Euro Meet just got all the more enticing: Adam Peaty has signed up. Yes, there will be that first 100m test of 2017 for t6he Olympic champion but just as intriguing is the potential first clash of Peaty and Germany’s Marco Koch over 200m if the British challenger and his coach Mel Marshall think it time to have a go.
In Rio, Peaty confirmed that he wanted to “give the 200m a real go on the way to Tokyo [2020]”. He’s got a 2:08 on his books but watched a blanket 2:07s Olympic final won by Dimitry Balandin in Rio and concluded: “That race has got a long way to go. I really thought it could be much faster than that.”
Peaty has just been on camp in Dubai getting fit for the season to come and the defence of his world titles over 50 and 100 next summer.

Look back at Olympic trials in Glasgow in a spring that feels as though it belongs to a remote past and we find Peaty looking forward to the 100m in Rio with a big smile on his face: “Rio: it’s about who has the biggest mojo, the size of them really.” The grin gets wider.
