Tackling is not Pep’s problem
- Updated: December 19, 2016
Pep Guardiola has been criticised for his views on tackling but Jamie Carragher believes that the Manchester City coach knows how to win the ball back.
Following City’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester earlier this month, it was put to Guardiola that his side had failed to win a tackle in the first 35 minutes of the match – by which point his side were already three goals down.
“I’m not a coach for the tackles, so I don’t train the tackles,” replied the City coach. “What I want is to try to play well and score goals. What’s tackles? We’re not going to win or lose for the tackles.”
The comments opened Guardiola up to further criticism in the wake of a heavy defeat, fuelling the fire for those who argue that the Catalan cannot adapt to English football., but Carragher sees the situation differently.
