Phil Taylor blitzed his way into the second round of the World Darts Championship and then insisted his confidence is now higher than it’s ever been.
The 56-year-old won the last of his 16 world titles back in 2013 and has dropped to number four in the PDC world rankings, but was in imperious form as he beat qualifier David Platt in his opening match on Sunday night.
He produced an average just below 102 to set up a last-32 clash with Kevin Painter on December 27 and vowed to prove his critics wrong by winning a 17th world crown.
