Super Bowl 2017: Las Vegas’ Latest Odds for Favorites and Sleepers
- Updated: December 18, 2016
Super Bowl 51 is still a couple of months away—in fact, there are still almost three full weeks remaining in the regular season. While we’re starting to get a good idea of which teams look like legitimate title contenders, there is plenty of room for surprises to emerge between now and the big game.
Teams like the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs have rolled for much of the season. Yet, the more dangerous teams when the postseason kicks off could be those currently fighting to get into the dance. Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers are still clawing their way along just for that shot.
How do the odds-makers in Vegas view the potential playoff landscape? That’s exactly what we’ll be examining today. We’re going to look at the latest Super Bowl odds—courtesy of OddsShark.com—and dig into some of the more intriguing entries on the odds list.

Teams to Watch
Denver Broncos (50-1)
Right now, the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos are in position to make a postseason appearance. If they can get into the playoffs, they should be considered because of their defense—which obviously paved the way to last year’s title.
Pro Football Focus rates Denver first in overall defense for the season so far. As a team, Denver allows just 310.7 yards (third-fewest in the NFL) and 18.6 points (sixth fewest) per game.
The problem for this year’s Denver team is the offense, especially early in games. The Broncos are currently rated 26th in overall offense by Pro Football Focus and average just 328.1 yards per game (25th in the NFL).
As good as the Denver defense is, it isn’t quite built to help overcome an early deficit. Teams have been able to run on the unit this year. In fact, only three teams allow more rushing yards than the 127.2 per game Denver allows. This clearly aids the opposition when they can play with a lead.
Unfortunately, the Broncos have given the opposition an early lead far too often this season.
