Coppolella talks offseason during Twitter Q&A
- Updated: December 15, 2016
ATLANTA — Braves general manager John Coppolella admitted he has a lingering interest in Chris Archer, discussed some offseason plans and cited National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation as his favorite holiday movie during Thursday afternoon’s three-hour session of #AskCoppy, a popular fan Q&A periodically conducted via the team’s Twitter account (@braves).
When asked what he would like for Christmas, Coppolella responded, “Archer or another ace-type pitcher. In all seriousness, just health & happiness for family & friends. I don’t need anything else.”

But Coppolella would have liked to have had left-hander Chris Sale at the right cost, specifically not Dansby Swanson, and he obviously hasn’t given up on the thought of acquiring Archer, despite the fact that the Rays’ demands have thus far exceeded his comfort zone. Though tireless in his efforts, Coppolella also provided this realistic response to a trade-related question: “90% of trades (discussed) never happen, but you still go down the rabbit hole.”
