Denny Hamlin book-ended the regular season with wins at Daytona International Speedway and Richmond International Raceway before going on to finish sixth in the final standings. After winning the Sprint Unlimited to unofficially kick off his year, Hamlin achieved a childhood dream by capturing the checkered flag in the Daytona 500. Hamlin, who also finished fifth in the Can-Am Duel at Daytona, led a race-high 95 laps to take his first points-paying win in 22 starts at “The World Center of Racing.” “This is the best. It’s just the best,” Hamlin said after the win. “It’s the biggest race of my life. The Daytona 500 is the pinnacle of our sport and I’m proud to be here.” Hamlin became the fifth driver to win the Unlimited and the “500” in the same season.
