MARTIN’S STARTING STAT FROM ANFIELD
Well it was all about the goalkeepers…
By a strange coincidence both Loris Karius and Darren Randolph were playing their 10th Premier League games for their respective clubs as I commentated on Liverpool 2-2 West Ham.
You might think that Randolph at the age of 29 would be way ahead 23-year-old Karius. In fact, Randolph has only played one other Premier League game ever – May 13, 2007 for Charlton Athletic in the last game before their relegation. That was also at Anfield and it finished 2-2 – just like his 10th game on Sunday!
Already Karius has achieved more than the Liverpool goalkeeper in that game in 2007, who played his only game for the club. His name was Daniele Padelli, who was on loan from Sampdoria. He came in January 2007 and left a few days later. He is currently the reserve goalkeeper for Torino, where he is understudy to a goalkeeper who has been linked to Liverpool, Joe Hart. He played the first two league games this season before Hart was signed.
Randolph has now played 11 Premier League games, three of them away at Anfield. He was also the goalkeeper for the 3-0 win in August 2015, so he still hasn’t lost in those three matches.
HOME COMFORTS
Liverpool are unbeaten at home this season. Are they close to a record? Andrew T (Surrey)
MARTIN SAYS: Following their 2-2 draw against West Ham on Sunday, Liverpool extended their record to 22 home games unbeaten in all competitions – the best of any side currently competing in the Premier League. Their last home defeat was against Stoke in the League Cup semi-final on January 26.
That’s Liverpool’s best home run since they went 32 games unbeaten (February 2008 to March 2009). They W23 D9 in that run.
They are unbeaten in their last 15 in the Premier League since losing 1-0 to Manchester United on January 17 (W9 D6 since then). That’s their best since a run of 31 league games under Rafa Benitez (December 2007-August 2009).
However, the Reds’ current record is some way off some of the best home …
