Cayman Islands welcome NORCECA for eighth consecutive year

Grand Cayman, April 20, 2016 – The double-gender Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament is the next stop on the NORCECA Beach Volleyball World Tour when it takes place at Seven Mile Beach from April 22 to 24 with teams hailing from 15 countries.

After hosting the opening NORCECA event for the past seven seasons, Grand Cayman will be welcoming the participants for the fifth leg of the competition, following stops in Guatemala, Guaymas and La Paz, Mexico and Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Big crowds are expected once at the venue which is set on the pearly white sand of Seven Mile Beach located on the western shore of Grand Cayman.

The men’s competition features the top three finishers in Guanacaste in what is expected to be a tough battle for the medals.

After succeeding in Costa Rica last weekend, Canada’s Cameron Wheelan and Michael Plantinga will be aiming to repeat their victory when they subdued Trinidad and Tobago’s Daniel Williams and Fabien Whitfield for the gold medals, the Trinidadians best finish in NORCECA after previously winning three bronze medals since 2012.

 

Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo, who took the bronze medal in Guanacaste alongside Luis Garcia, will team with Erick Garrido, a player with whom Leonardo has won two bronzes. 

Added to the mix will be the strong USA team of brothers Trevor and Taylor Crabb, winners of the season opener in Guatemala and Guaymas and La Paz bronze medallists, the …
