Braves show interest in Quintana The Braves are interested in making a deal with the White Sox for left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana, MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reported on Wednesday.

The Braves were interested in Chris Sale before he was dealt to the Red Sox, but were not willing to pay Chicago’s asking price.

Quintana, who has four years remaining on his current contract, went 13-12 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts for the White Sox in 2016 and was named to his first All-Star team.

Heyman identified the Nationals as a potential trade partner for Quintana and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale mentioned the Astros among the many teams also interested in the left-hander.

Chapman, Jansen nearing decisions There’s a feeling among clubs in the market for a top-end closer that both Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Janson are nearing decisions about where they will be pitching for the foreseeable future, Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan reported early Wednesday morning.

MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch reported on Tuesday that the Yankees have made contract offers to both Chapman and Jansen, and one team told USA Today’s Bob Nightengale late Tuesday night that Chapman has an offer of $92 million from an unknown club.

Nightingale also reported that Jansen told Marlins manager Don Mattingly, for whom he pitched with Los Angeles, that he is willing to leave the Dodgers and join him in Miami.

ESPN’s Jim Bowden reported on Tuesday that Jansen is expected to sign before Chapman and listed the Marlins, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Nationals as potential suitors for elite closers.

Heyman said the Mariners are hoping to free up money to use on a starting pitcher. Seattle was reportedly was nearing a deal with Boston that would have included Smith before the Red Sox signed first baseman Mitch Moreland to a one-year contract.

Smith, 34, is to make $7 million in 2017. He hit .249 with 16 home runs and 63 RBIs for the Mariners in 2016.

O’s back off Trumbo, looking at Carter? The Orioles extended a four-year contract offer to Mark Trumbo, the 2016 MLB home run king, several weeks ago but have pulled that off the table for now, according to a report from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

Trumbo, entering his age-31 season, paced the Majors with 47 homers while posting a career-best .850 OPS last season for Baltimore. The fact that the Orioles withdrew their offer to Trumbo has fueled speculation that they may be interested in acquiring another right-handed power hitter in Chris Carter, who emerged on to the scene when he was non-tendered by the Brewers on Friday.
