Cubs in discussion with Royals about Davis

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The Cubs, hoping to add more depth to the bullpen and possibly a new closer, were talking to the Royals about acquiring Wade Davis. However, there were reports late Tuesday that the Nationals also were interested in the right-hander.
A two-time All-Star, Davis, 31, will be a free agent after the 2017 season. He was a dominant setup man for Greg Holland before shifting to closer following Holland’s injury. Davis has posted a 1.18 ERA with 47 saves over 185 games the past three seasons. Cubs manager Joe Maddon knows the right-hander from their time together in Tampa Bay (2009-2012).
