Racing Gets Underway At World S/C Titles In Windsor, 2 Shots Apiece For Seto & Hosszu

Japan’s Daiya Seto and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu both progressed to two finals on the first morning of action at the World short-course Championships in Windsor, Canada.
Seto cruised through to the 200m butterfly final in 1:52.55 in fifth place before stamping his authority on the 200m medley later in the session, a 1:53.49 good lane 4 this evening.
If he was biding his time on butterfly, so too was world record holder and defending champion Chad Le Clos (RSA), on 1:51.23 as second-fasetst qualifier after Russian Alexander Kharlanov, on 1:51.03.
That represented a massive leap in the 21-year-old Russian’s personal best, from a 1:54.81 high last season, all of which translates to Kharlanov leaping over eight other Russians on his nation’s all-time top 10 from No 10 to No2, Nikolay Skvortsov’s shiny suited efforts of 1:49.46 the only target ahead of him on the domestic clock.
Also through to the final: Pace Clark (USA), Viktor Bromer (DEN) and, after Seto, Leonardo de Deus (BRA), Nao Horomura (JPN) and Tom Shields (USA), with Hungarians Tamas Kenderesi, Olympic podium placer, and David Verraszto locked out.
