Australia Open To Hosting 2022 After 2018 Commonwealths If Durban Goes Deep

Australia may step in with a follow-up Commonwealth Games four years after the Gold Coast event scheduled for 2018 if South Africa and Durban lose the right to stage the event after failing to deliver on deadline promises.
Games Australia chief executive Craig Phillips suggested that his nation could host two in a row after Durban, granted the multi-sports event in September 2015 was given warning this past October that further failure to adhere to a series of conditions almost a year overdue would result in loss of hosting rights.
