Chapecoense Named 2016 Copa Sudamericana Champions

Brazilian club Chapecoense have been named 2016 Copa Sudamericana champions by CONMEBOL after losing 19 of their players in a plane crash as they travelled to the tournament’s final last week. 

South American football writer Rupert Fryer confirmed the news on Monday:

Per Callum Davis of the Telegraph, Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional, who were set to play Chapecoense in the first leg of the final on November 30, asked that the Brazilian club be named honorary champions.
