Nicaragua take control of AFECAVOL qualifier

Managua, Nicaragua, December 3, 2016 – Nicaragua took control of the round-robin AFECAVOL Women’s FIVB World Championship qualification tournament when they beat Guatemala on the fourth day of competition.
The host nation defeated the previously unbeaten Guatemala 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) to move to the top of the table, while El Salvador edged Honduras 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-8, 15-8) in a dramatic five-set thriller.
The tournament is the first step for Central American teams to qualify for the Japan 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship. Panama complete the quintet at the Nicaraguan Sports Institute.
