A day after his costly error, Aledmys Diaz is out of the lineup

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny doesn’t wait long to address his players’ struggles with lineup changes. Randal Grichuk was pulled from the starting lineup for two games after he got off to a 1-for-14 start. When Kolten Wong hit a 1-for-17 skid, he too got a couple of days to step back and watch most of the games from the bench.
Rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz is the latest young player to lose his spot in the starting lineup for at least a day while he works on his game. Despite a scorching bat, Diaz was replaced in Tuesday night’s lineup by veteran shortstop Ruben Tejada.

Diaz continues to be the Cardinals’ hottest bat, but his shaky defense has been costly at times. One error on a double-play ball in Monday night’s game opened the door for a three-run Chicago rally in what turned into a 5-0 Cubs win.
Diaz, who is the 12th Cardinal since 1913 to come up with 10 or more hits and two or more home runs in his first 11 games, has four errors in just eight starts. His 1.232 OPS is the best on the team. Interestingly, his advanced …
