Preston’s Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle were sent off in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday – for fighting each other.
The bizarre incident occurred in the 90th minute as the visitors chased an equaliser in the Sky Bet Championship encounter at Hillsborough, with Beckford reacting badly to Doyle’s failure to put him through on goal and instead pass to Marnick Vermijl.
That left Preston with just nine men for the remainder of stoppage time and manager Simon Grayson was furious with the pair afterwards, promising disciplinary action and branding the scrap as “embarrassing”.
