Nieuwenhuis, Brewers agree to 1-year deal

MILWAUKEE — The Brewers avoided arbitration with outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis on Friday with a one-year contract that reportedly pays $900,000 in the Major Leagues.
The agreement left six Brewers players eligible for arbitration: pitchers Chase Anderson, Wily Peralta, Tyler Thornburg and Carlos Torres, catcher Martin Maldonado and second baseman Scooter Gennett. Arbitration-eligible first baseman Chris Carter has already been designated for assignment, and the possibility remained of a pre-deadline trade.
