Shelvey to defend abuse charge

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will get the chance before Christmas to argue his case over an FA charge that he racially abused an opponent.
The personal hearing he requested after pleading not guilty to an FA charge of using “abusive and/or insulting words towards an opponent” will take place during the week beginning Monday, December 19.
