Braves have 4 intriguing non-tender decisions

ATLANTA — Right-hander Chris Withrow and left-hander Paco Rodriguez are a couple relievers the Braves acquired from the Dodgers with the hope they would make a smooth recovery from Tommy John surgery and regain the promise they had shown during the early portion of their respective careers.

There remains a possibility that Withrow and Rodriguez could become valuable assets in Atlanta’s bullpen. But for now, these two relievers join catchers Anthony Recker and Tuffy Gosewisch as the four members of the Braves’ organization who are most anxiously looking toward Friday’s non-tender deadline, when all Major League clubs must decide whether to tender a contract to their arbitration-eligible players.

The Braves will almost certainly tender a contract to Gold Glove Award-winning outfielder Ender Inciarte, left-handed reliever Ian Krol and potential closer Arodys Vizcaino. There remains a chance they could do the same in regard to Withrow, Rodriguez, Recker and Gosewisch. But it seems more likely that at least one member of this latter group will either be traded or granted free agency via a non-tender by the end of this week.
