Phils face non-tender decisions before deadline

PHILADELPHIA — If the Phillies want to make room on the 40-man roster before next week’s Winter Meetings, they have a couple of options this week.
The Phils have four players eligible for salary arbitration, and they have until 11:59 p.m. ET Friday to tender contracts to them. They are shortstop Freddy Galvis, second baseman Cesar Hernandez, right-hander Jeanmar Gomez and outfielder Cody Asche. Galvis and Hernandez are locks to be offered contracts because they will be the Phillies’ Opening Day shortstop and second baseman, respectively, barring trades or any other unforeseen developments.

But Gomez and Asche are far less certain. Either could be tendered, non-tendered, traded or signed to a pre-tender contract before Friday’s deadline.
