The round ended with defeat of the leader, derby games and favorites losing the games.The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Terceira (5-2) in Angra Heroismo on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Barreirense (6-2) 77-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Terceira. It was a key game for the top position in Group South. Barreirense keeps a position of Group South leader. Terceira at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. Barreirense are looking forward to face Benfica B (#4) in Lisboa in the next round. Terceira will play on the road against Belenenses CF in Lisboa and is hoping to win this game. Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Porto: Dragon Force (#1) and Vasco (#2). Dragon Force (7-1) won against visiting Vasco (6-2) 83-77. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Vasco. It was a key game for the top position in Group North. The winners were led by forward Agenor Rolo (193-95) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and Filipe Ferreira supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by point guard Miguel Toreia (180-93) did not help to save the game for Vasco. Vasco’s coach Hugo Salgado rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Dragon Force have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group North with 7-1 record. Vasco at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. Dragon Force will play against Sangalhos (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vasco will play against Academico FC (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Lisboa: Benfica B (#4) and Belenenses CF (#6). Benfica B (5-3) won against visiting Belenenses CF (2-5) 66-59. The best player for the winners was Ricardo Monteiro who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Benfica B’s coach Joao Tavares used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aylton Medeiros produced 19 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Benfica B moved-up to third place in Group South, which they share with Estoril Basket. Loser Belenenses CF dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Benfica B will meet league’s leader Barreirense in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Belenenses CF will play against the league’s second-placed Terceira (#2) and hope to secure a win. Very important is a road loss of second ranked Barreirense (6-2) against fifth ranked Angrabasket (4-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Barreirense was defeated by Angrabasket in a tough game in Angra 79-84. Deshaunt Walker orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points and 5 assists. Angrabasket maintains fifth position in Group South with 4-5 record. Barreirense at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Angrabasket’s next round opponent will be higher ranked Estoril Basket (#3) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Barreirense will play against Benfica B and hope to win that game. Fisica’s road win over 5th ranked Angrabasket 91-76 was very exciting. Worth to mention a great performance of Miguel Salvador who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 4 assists. Fisica’s coach Romero Junior allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Fisica (3-6) moved-up to sixth place in Group South. Loser Angrabasket keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Fisica will face Academia (#8) in Lisboa in the next round. Angrabasket will play on the road against Estoril Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: In Group North Ginasio lost to Academico FC on the opponent’s court 64-76. Esgueira managed to outperform Sanjoanense in a home game 87-72. Sangalhos recorded a loss to Guifoes on the road 57-52. In Group South Academia were defeated by Estoril Basket on its own court 69-76. Fisica was beaten by Terceira in Angra Heroismo 92-82. The most impressive stats of the last round was 24 points and 12 rebounds by Alexander Kravtsov of Angra.NorthDragon Force – Vasco 83-77Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Porto: Dragon Force (#1) and Vasco (#2). They outrebounded Vasco 41-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Vasco was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by forward Agenor Rolo (193-95) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Filipe Ferreira (180-96) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds.
