Ian Williams saddled the 1,000th winner of his training career when the perfectly-named Appy Days obliged in the Call Star Sports On 08000 521 321 Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Lingfield.
Tom O’Brien rode a patient race on the celebrity-owned Appy Days in the early stages before delivering her to challenge and lead over a furlong out.
The 10/11 favourite, who runs in the colours of top golfers Lee Westwood and Danny Willett, together with agent Chubby Chandler, went on score cosily by nine lengths from Skeleton Bob.
“It’s great and quite aptly-named as well,” said Williams, whose late father Billy was a trainer.
“It’s huge. I wish my father was still alive. It would be great for him. It’s something you never dream of doing. It’s a great feeling.”
The dual-purpose trainer first took out a licence in 1997 having learnt his trade with Jenny Pitman, Martin Pipe and Francois Doumen.
