GMP launch abuse probe

Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation into historical sex abuse in youth football after the force said it had received a “number of calls” following recent media coverage.
Four other police forces – Hampshire, Cheshire, Northumbria and the Metropolitan – have also launched investigations, while the Football Association is also investigating the claims.
The issue came to the fore when ex-player Andy Woodward spoke out about the abuse he suffered at the hands of convicted paedophile Barry Bennell.
