India took the honours in the opening session of the second day as they reached 60 for 1, having needed less than four overs to wrap up England’s first innings for 283. M Vijay was the lone success for England when Ben Stokes struck in his first over, but makeshift opener Parthiv Patel held firm with an unbeaten 37.
