Babar Azam held Pakistan together with an unbeaten 81 as they fought their way to within 70 runs of New Zealand’s first innings score before rain washed out almost all of the post-lunch session on day three. Azam stretched his overnight sixth-wicket partnership with Sarfraz Ahmed to 74, and added a further 67 with Sohail Khan for the seventh wicket, before New Zealand struck back with two wickets in the space of nine balls, leaving Pakistan 200 for 8 when a brief shower forced lunch eight minutes early. Only six balls were possible in the second session before rain returned to Seddon Park.
