Flanagan retains world title

Terry Flanagan retained his WBO world lightweight title with an eighth-round stoppage win over Orlando Cruz at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena.
Mancunian Flanagan – making the fourth defence of the title he won last summer – was in complete control from the outset as he asserted his authority in the first half of the fight.
Cruz became increasingly deflated as the contest wore on and the referee brought the fight to a halt after the Puerto Rican was floored twice by Flanagan in the eighth round.
