Real Madrid moved seven points clear of Barcelona at the top of La Liga with a 2-1 win over Sporting Gijon.
Zinedine’s Zidane side did not demonstrate their usual attacking quality, but a first-half Cristiano Ronaldo double was enough to see Real Madrid labour to victory.
